The Nevins-built schooner BRILLIANT, design No. 12 from Sparkman & Stephens, was commissioned by Walter Barnum in 1930. She immediately proved her speed, seaworthiness, and comfort, notably with a record-setting transatlantic passage in 1933. Since 1953, this extraordinary yacht has been in the collections of Mystic Seaport Museum, where she operates as sail-training vessel—one of the oldest such programs in the United States.
