“Boating” is a jolly word that brings to mind a wicker hamper stocked with trimmed-crust sandwiches and cold champagne, what the old-century would term a “dude” experience: a real-life event miniaturized and made safe for well-dressed swells and hobbyists.
Getting started in boats is not for dudes. Pushing your boat 10′ offshore places you in a foreign environment, the interface of irreconcilable elements—rushing wind and restless water. Hydrodynamics multiply effects on even a small boat, logarithmically. A casual wave, a murmur of the sea, imparts crushing power.
